AT & Sensory Disabilities



Just like the prior blog on AT and Learning Disabilities, this blog will look at AT and Sensory Disabilities. Sensory Disabilities involve the five senses. One website that goes into detail about this disability is Virginia.gov, the site can be found HERE.

Overview of this disabilities that were looked at:

A) Deaf-Blind
B) Hearing Impaired-Deafness
C) Visual Impairment- Blindness

2 High Tech devices that can be used by a student with a sensory disability:

1. Hearing impaired/deaf: System Beep Modification; Change system beep to Visual beep that generates a visual warning when system makes a sound.




2. Scanner/OCR- Ability to scan printed material and to convert material into clearly spoken synthesized speech.



2 Low Tech devices that can be used by a student with a sensory disability:

1.   Screen Magnifiers- students can enlarge print on any reading material.



2.   Books on tape that are recorded by the teacher or the author.
